The Hawaiʻi Licensure Checklist

• Qualifying master’s degree (48 credits, 8 core areas, 2-semester practicum with 300 client contact hours)
• 3,000 hours of post-graduate mental health counseling experience
• 100 hours of face-to-face clinical supervision (individual, group, or mixed)
• Hours completed over no less than 2 and no more than 4 years
• Supervisor holds a qualifying license (LMHC, LCSW, LMFT, psychologist, psychiatrist, or psychiatric APRN)
• Contemporaneous hour log with supervisor sign-off
• Pass the NCE examination
• DCCA application with notarized supervisor verification forms

• Qualifying graduate degree with one-year practicum (300 supervised client contact hours)
• 1,000 hours of post-master’s supervised direct clinical experience
• 200 hours of clinical supervision
• At least 100 supervision hours from an LMFT with 5+ years of clinical experience
• Experience accrued over at least 2 years
• Contemporaneous hour log with supervisor sign-off
• Pass the AMFTRB national MFT examination
• DCCA application with supervisor verification

• CSWE-accredited MSW (or qualifying doctorate)
• 3,000 hours of post-degree supervised clinical social work, over 2 to 5 years
• At least 2,000 of those hours in assessment, diagnosis, and psychotherapy
• No more than 900 hours of client-centered advocacy, consultation, and evaluation
• 100 hours of supervision: at least 60 individual, at most 40 group (groups of 6 or fewer)
• Supervisor is an LCSW with 4,500+ hours of post-master’s clinical experience
• Contemporaneous hour log with supervisor sign-off
• Pass the ASWB Clinical examination
• DCCA application with supervisor verification
